Hello Angie,

Yes brown paper sacks are still available at the grocery store if you ask.

Fabric bags are making their way....but the preferred option is reusable plastic bag.

Hi Maryse

Do they still have the brown paper sacks as an option in the grocery stores? Not that they are any better in environmental terms but at least they do compost down.

You will have to start your own Morsbag pod and try and convert the whole of Canada to fabric bags.

Most of the stores in Canada especially grocery stores have their own plastic reusable bags with their logo on. Now we are seing it with banks, libraries and a few clothes shops. Most are reusable plastic though...

Until recently we even had a rebate for every reusable plastic bag we brought at the grocery for use. They stopped giving out rebate a month ago and claimed giving out x amount to environmental associations...???

There is discussion to start charging for plastic bags in grocery. We need to see when that will happen.

This is a great idea!! I often see someone in line at the check out behind me without a cloth bag, and I wish I had one to give them. That is exactly what I'm going to do with my old sheets!

I am very pleased to say that we are planning to integrate this into the five year town plan for Ventnor, Bonchurch and St Lawrence.

Looking at it as either an adjunct to,or even an alternative to allotments. It makes economic sense for the Town Council. It makes socio economic sense for our community.

It may not be possible to do it as an alternative if the law states the TC must provide allotments if a sufficient number of people have registered as such. Which is the case here.

A good starting point would be a garden map of our area.

Does anyone out there have recent experience of a Town Council taking this aproach?

We would love to include it in the plan.

Many thanks,

Mark
